Answer:

The mass percent of ethanol is 10.1 %.

Explanation:

Percent of alcohol by volume (ABV) is the volume of ethanol in

100 cm ³ of solution.

For example, the volume of

12.5 cm

3

of ethanol plus

87.5 cm ³  of water is only  97.8 cm³.

The density of 12.5 % ABV at 20 °C is  0.9784 g/cm³

Now, we can calculate the mass percent of the ethanol.

Mass of ethanol  =  12.5 cm³    ethanol  ×  0.789 g ethanol/ 1cm³ ethanol

                            = 9.826 g ethenol

mass of wine= 100 cm³ x 0.9784 g ethenol/ 1 cm³ wine

                     = 97.84 g solution

% by mass = mass of ethenol/ mass of wine x 100

                 = 9.862 g/97. 84 g x 100

                 = 10.1%
