Given:

Length of a rectangle = 2 × width of rectangle

To find:

Mathematical expression of area of rectangle.

Solution:

Let length of rectangle be l. Let width of rectangle be b.

Let A be the area of rectangle.

The amount of space occupied by a two-dimensional object is called area. A rectangle has only two dimensions, length and width, eventhough there are four sides. The opposite sides of a rectangle are equal. Hence, area of rectangle is given as the product of its dimensions, i.e., product of its length and width.

Area of rectangle = length × width

A=l*w

Since length of the rectangle is twice its width,

l=2w

Substituting this value in the equation of area.

A=l*w

A=2w*w

A=2w^{2}

This is the mathematical expression of area of rectangle whose length is twice that of width.

The mathematical expression of the area of a rectangle whose length (l) is twice its width (w) is given by 2w^{2}.
