let us take a square of side 'a' and a triangle of base 'b' and 'h'

1. b is always perpendicular to h

2.b can increase max to a i.e,

b -  > a

3.similarly h can increase max to a i.e,

h -  > a

4.area of triangle max

 =  \frac{1}{2} \:  b \times h

i.e,

 \frac{1}{2}  {a}^{2}
