SI stands for Systemè Internationale d' Unities. The SI System of units was set up by the CGPM or the General Conference of Weights and Measures in 1948, which instructed the international community to create the ''Study and establishment of a complete set of rules for the units of measurement.'' Formerly, it was called the Metric System.

There are seven base units for the seven base physical quantities in the SI system.

Units are of three types, the base units and derived units and the supplementary units.

Supplementary units were first grouped by the CGPM, but later regrouped and defined with the derived units...

l length metre m

m mass kilogram kg

t time second s

I current ampere A

T temperature kelvin K

Iv luminous intensity candela cd

n amount of substance mole mol
