mean is the ratio of sum of observations to total number of observations.

e.g., \textbf{mean}=\frac{\text{sum of observations}}{\text{number of observations}}

here observations are : 4, 2 , 2 , 2, 5, 15
sum of observations = 4 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 5 + 15 = 30
total number of observations = 6

mean = 30/6 = 5
