Numerator and denominator are the two numbers denoted in a fraction. When we see a fraction, there are two numbers in it, the top number or the number placed on the top of fractional line is the numerator.

Whereas, the bottom number or the number placed below the fractional line is called as the denominator.

For example, in the fraction 45/7 the number above the fractional line is 45, which means that it is the numerator.

The number below the fractional line is 7, which means it is denominator.
