WHAT IS DEGREE OF UNSATURATION ?
Degree of unsaturation is hydrogen deficiency in a molecule with respect to corresponding alkane.
- EXAMPLE :- C2H4(Ethene) the corresponding alkane is ethane (C2H6).
- We can see that Ethane has two hydrogen lesser than ethane.It is compensated by a double bond and its degree of unsaturation is 1.
ANSWER TO THE QUESTION :-
If degree of unsaturation is 0, it implies that either the organic compound is alliphatic(not having ring ) and does not have a double or triple bond or the compound does not have a double or triple bond.
- Degree of unsaturation of cyclohexane (Ring) is 1.
