In politics, the opposition comprises one or more political parties or other organized groups that are opposed to the government (or, in American English, the administration), party or group in political control of a city, region, state or country. It is the partythat goes against another party.

The Opposition's main role is to question the government of the day and hold them accountable to the public. National Party leader Dr Don Brash says the Oppositionrepresents an alternative government, and is responsible for challenging the policies of the government and producing different policies where appropriate.
