Road density simply is the ratio of the length of the country's total road network to the country's land area.

The four major problems faced by the road transport are :

1.  Half of the roads are not macadamized and thus become muddy during the rainy season.

2.   Road encroachment is another major problem.

3.  Congested roads especially in the cities cause more traffic jams and accidents.

4.  The roads are inadequate with respect to passengers and volume of traffic.
