Special economic zones(SEZs) has been set up by the government with a view to promote free trade and yield higher economic profit or growth. SEZs are being set up by the central and state governments in India to draw foreign companies and convince them to invest in India.

Features of SEZ:

1.They have world class facilities such as roads, transport, storage, electricity, water, recreational and educational.

2.Taxes, for the initial 5 years does not have to be paid.
