What is the meaning of the line "my butterflies days are over?" Why does Mr Easton says so?

Mr Easton was acting like a Marshal infront of Ms Fairchild, to show his responsibilities as a Marshal , he used this phrase

According to me he is hinting at his future imprisonment as he is the prisoner and he is just faking in front of miss Fairchild that he is a Marshal.
