The first two verses of the song were adopted as the National Song of India in October 1937 by Congress Working Committee prior to the end of colonial rule in August 1947 Is Vande Mataram And It Means Was"Long Live In Mother's (Land)".

Lordduke: in sanskrit.....VANDE means Salute or respect to....and MATARAM means mother(mother refers here is the spirit of Maa India...in hindi bharat mata ki jai

It is an poem written by Bankim Chandra which literally it means ""I pray/bow/praise to thee mother.
