All our wells, bore-wells, lakes and ponds are all sources of drinking water or usable water. Water harvesting with syntex or similar tanks has meaning in hill stations. It Metros huge lakes (Alsur lake in Bangalore for example ) have to be developed by deepening them and with the same mud raising the banks of the lake. Our politicians have no such ideas. Mudurantakam lake in Chennai could be developed that way. Existing lakes like Pooni & Solavaram could be further developed. Possibly Island Grounds (back waters) can be developed to collect all Chennai-rain-flood waters by construction of dyke-like walls all around. We just have made no serious efforts to harvest rain water to make it potable.
