Merit:-
1. If we diagnose any abnormalities in child after birth we can perform MTP to prevent suffering of the child in future.
2. If it affects the health of mother or child or both, MTP can be performed.
3. Failure of contraceptives or casual intercourse resulted in pregnancy, in that case also MTP can be performed.
Demerits:-
1. It is abused to female foeticide.

Merits:It could prevent pregnancies due to
a)Casual or unprotected intercourse.
b)Failure of the contraceptive used during coitus.
c)Rapes
d) Continuation of the pregnancy could be harmful either to the mother or to the foetus or both.
Demerits:a)Majority of the MTPs are performed by illegally or unqualified persons which are nit only safe but could be fatal.
b)If the foetus is found to be female by the misuse of amniocentesis,it is followed by MTP reult in female foeticide.
