What is the minimum number of students, each of whom comes from one of the 50 states, who must be enrolled in a university to guarantee that there are atleast 100 who come from the same state​

If there were 99 students from each of the 50 states, then there would be 4950(99*50) students enrolled without having 100 from the same state. If one more student enrolled, then that student would be the 100th student from one of the states. Therefore, the minimum number is 4951

99*50=4950 it is the maximum number of students when none of the university is having 100 or more student. Now adding 1 more student will guarantee that there are at least 100 who come from the same state.

So answer = 99*50 +1 = 4951

Note: To guarantee that there are at least 100 who come from the same state answer is 4951 else the answer will be 100 (All the 100 students come from the same state).
