Answer: In the poem fire is used to represent desire of people and ice is used to represent hatred spread by people . The poet wants to say that either the world will end with desire or the world will end with hatred that is increasing day by day among people like fire and ice. So we should not be so greedy and have desire to get everything and we should not even give hate to anyone to save earth.
