Representative Democracy is the most common form of democracy. The following are the reasons for this assertion:

It allows us to elect representatives, who have knowledge and judgment specialized to a definite field.

Representatives and parties are also able to arbitrate between the different pressure groups and sections of society.

The helplessness of minorities disappears in a representative democracy, as their needs and demands also receive due consideration.

Representative democracy can make better sense of demands of the citizens and convert them into practical plan.

It is necessary to make long-range plans and policies to achieve any great success. But in a democratic system the representatives of the people are bound to face the electorate after 5 years. The general public does not want to make sacrifices for the good results, which will be available only in future. So a country cannot make real progress by following democratic system.

Hope this help you...
