Solution :-

We know that ,

  • The multiplicative inverse of a number is the number which when multiplied by the original number gives the result as 1 .
  • Multiplicative inverse of a = 1/a .

So, let multiplicative inverse of given number is x .

then,

→ Original number * multiplicative inverse = 1

→ 2(1/2) * x = 1

→ (5/2) * x = 1

→ x = 1/(5/2)

→ x = 1 * (2/5)

→ x = (2/5) (Ans.)

Hence, the multiplicative inverse of given number is equal to (2/5) .

Step by Step Explanation:

Given: The number 2\frac{1}{2}.

To Find: The Multiplicative Inverse of 2\frac{1}{2}

  • We know, Multiplicative inverse or Reciprocal of a number x is  \frac{1}{x} for which x\times\frac{1}{x}=1 that is, when the number is multiplied with its multiplicative inverse, the product comes out to be 1.
  • To find the Multiplicative Inverse of 2\frac{1}{2}, we must change it into improper fraction,

        ⇒ \frac{2\times2+1}{2}

        ⇒ \frac{5}{2}

  • Therefore, we need to find the multiplicative inverse of \frac{5}{2}.

        ⇒ \frac{5}{2}\times multiplicative\ inverse=1

        ⇒ multiplicative\ inverse = \frac{2}{5}

Hence, The Multiplicative Inverse of 2\frac{1}{2} is \frac{2}{5}.
