Sclerenchyma is a simple permanent tissue. These are dead cells with thick deposition of lignin on their cell wall. They are very closely packed without any intercellular spaces. Fibres and sclererids are its two types.
Sclerenchyma are hard and stony. Its provides strength, rigidity, flexibility and elasticity to the plant.
