The exit of food from the stomach is regulated by a sphincter muscle which releases it in small amounts into the small intestine. From the stomach, the food now enters the small intestine. This is the longest part of the alimentary canal which is fitted into a compact space because of extensive coiling.

The name of the muscle which regulates the exit of food from the stomach into small intestine is pyloric sphincter muscle.

  • The digestive system's stomach is where food is most thoroughly broken down.
  • At the top of the stomach, the lower esophageal sphincter controls how food enters the stomach and prevents stomach contents from returning to the esophagus.
  • The movement of food from the stomach into the small intestine is controlled by the pyloric sphincter at its base. There are sphincters in many species.
  • A sphincter is a circular muscle that ordinarily keeps a bodily channel or orifice constricted and releases when necessary for normal physiological function.
