Sobekneferu is the name of the first historically confirmed female pharaoh of ancient Egypt.
She reigned after the death of Amenemhat IV, who was her brother.
She reigned as Pharaoh for 4 years (1806-1802 BC).
Other than her, there were 4 other women who ruled over Egypt. When Amenemhat IV died, he probably did not have any male heir to rule the kingdom and thus his sister Sobekneferu was chosen to reign.
