Image distance (v)=36 cm
Focal length(f)=12 cm
By formula,
1/v+1/u=1/f,where u=object distance
1/u=1/f -1/v
=1/12-1/36
=3-1/36
=2/36
=1/18
Therefore, u=18 cm
Now,
Magnification (m)=-v/u
=-(36)/18
= -2
Since m=-2 (<1) ,
The image so formed is diminished and most probably behind the mirror. It can also be in the front of the mirror.
May it help!
