Step-by-step explanation:

Ans. 4x² - 8x - 12 = 0

=> 4 (x² - 2x - 3) = 0

=> x² - 2x - 3 = 0

=> x² - 3x + x - 3 = 0

=> x (x - 3) + 1 (x - 3) = 0

=> (x - 3) (x + 1) = 0

Then , either x - 3 = 0 , then x = 3

Or, x + 1 = 0 , then x = - 1

Hence x = 3 , - 1

Answer:

Here a=4,b=-12 and c=-9

D=

b

2

−4ac

D=

(−12)

2

−4(4)(−9)

D=144+144=288

Since,D>0 the roots are real and unequal
