Reading, writing capacity and intelligence are directly proportional as they are inextricably linked. By reading you are exposed to better writers with different skills, capacities and training. Just as a child learns to speak by listening, and mimicking what they hear, writers exposed to good writing through reading become better at both. If I may make an analogy; if you are skilled in a sport, you play up to or down to the level of your competition. The best games are those played between two skilled opponents who ‘raise their game’ to its highest level to succeed.
Now some folks may take exception to my linking intelligence to both a wider experience of reading and writing. Some erroneously link IQ to intelligence. In reality their are multiple types and kinds of intelligence. Marsha was a friend in college who was fluent in 7 languages. Bill was brilliant in Physics and Math. The more you read and write, the more you are exposed to good writers and solid content (learning) the more capably you can utilize your own intelligence and talents. The most intelligent and capable people I know, are both perceptive readers and engaging writers who are life long learners.
So for example Quora is a good venue for both. Good readers and writers enjoy the challenge of others who would push and engage them. It is the nature of learning and life to rise (or fall) to the level of those with whom you choose to associate and engage. re: JHS
