Once an egg leaves the ovary, it travels through one of the fallopian tubes towards uterus. A thick lining along the uterus is formed to nourish the embryo.

If fertilisation doesn't occurs, the body doesn't need the thick lining of uterus anymore. So, finally blood, nutrients and tissues flows out of the body.
