hyyy....Standardized units of measure are important to engineering.... because if everyone was using different measurement systems, dimensions of different objects and inventions wouldn't be converted correctly from the inventor to other inventors or manufacturers....

I think you are asking this question  from history . From Nationalism in Europe 
The idea of standardisation of unit of measurment and money because it was scattered unequally over different regions .
This was under Napolinic Civil Code . 
Which aimed for conquering of France .
