have you heard of the law of conservation of mass?it states that a mass can neither be created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction.in order to this law,we must balance both the sides of a chemical equation (reactants and products) so that both sides have equal number of atoms for each compound .thus we balance both the sides for a balanced equation and to verify this law.

In a chemical reaction, no atoms are gained and none are lost. This means matter is conserved. Therefore, a chemical equation needs to be balanced..
