There are many uses of electroplating:
1. To save a metal from corrosion. For example, Nickel is sometimes plated over iron, so that it does not get rusted.
2. For decoration: Gold is plated over silver articles, silver is plated over copper, etc.

many reasons here are two
(1)sometime because the electroplated metal is of high price and one could not afford that thing made from that single metal or element.
(2)secondly to change the surface properties of a object .e g.abrasion an wear resistance corrosion protection and lubricity.
(3)for creating coins,such as pennies in US .made up zinc covered from copper
