The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a large network of membrane-bound tubes and sheets. The endoplasmic reticulum is a winding network of thin membranous sacs.  They are continous in fashion. When cells are disrupted, the ER breaks up into small vesicles called microsomes.  They are covered with several ribosomes. These are Polyribosomes which are an aggregation of  several ribosomes held together by a string of mRNA. Ribosomes are sites for biological protein synthesis. The eukaryotic ribosomes are also known as 80S ribosomes, which is their sedimentation coefficients in Svedberg units, because they sediment more slowly than the prokaryotic ribosomes (70s unit).
