Degree of Freedom is defined as the number of possible independent ways in which a system can have energy.
Usaually the KInetic energy of a gas molecule will have three form :---> Translational ----> Vibrational ---> Rotational

In di atomic gases like H2, N2,O2 molecule  have 5 degree of freedom

three translatory  and two rotationally.
