Your answers are:-
(a) Electronic configuration of Na: 2, 8, 1
so, Electronic configuration of Na+¹ :2, 8
So, 8 is no. of valence electrons.

(b)Electronic configuration of O: 2, 8, 6
so, Electronic configuration of O-² :2, 8, 8
So, 8 is no. of valence electrons.

sodium ion --->  Na^{+}

sodium has deficiency of 1 electrons

electronic configuration of Na^{+} is 2,8

valence electron of  Na^{+}  = 8

========================================================

oxide ion ------->  O^{-2}

oxide ion has 2 electrons extra

electronic configuration of O^{-2} is 2,8

valence electron in  O^{-2} ion = 8

AdiK1needy: is my answer correct now?
