East Asia currently contains the largest area of forest (245 million hectares), followed by Oceania (206 million hectares), Southeast Asia (204 million hectares) and South Asia (79 million hectares). Two countries, China and Australia, account for half the forest area of the region and the top ten countries account for 64 percent of the regional total. The remaining 36 percent of the forest area is divided among 37 countries and territories
