Under acidic conditions, the aldehyde is oxidised to a carboxylic acid. Under alkaline conditions, this couldn't form because it would react with the alkali. A salt is formed instead. Note: In the case of methanal, HCHO, the oxidation goes further.

Answer:

The aldehyde on oxidation gives carboxylic acid. While the ketones will not form any oxidation under these condition as ketones do not have acidic hydrogen which will thus not allow the elimination to occur thus it will not oxidize.

This oxidation generally takes place in acidic condition as in alkali condition it will react with alkali but in acidic condition the reaction continues.
