Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and other halogenated ozone depleting substances (ODS) are mainly responsible for man-made chemical ozone depletion. The total amount of effective halogens (chlorine and bromine) in thestratosphere can be calculated and are known as the equivalent effective stratospheric chlorine (EESC).
