What is the past participle of "smite"? "Smote" sounds kind of right, but not really. Someone said it would be "smitten," but that means you are in love. I'm confused. Please help.

Smite has two different meanings

When it means

strike with a firm blow.

("he smites the water with his sword")

The past participle is smote

On the other hand, when it means

be strongly attracted to someone or something.

("she was smitten with the boy")

The past participle is smitten.
