growth industry is that sector of an economy which experiences a higher-than-average growth rate as compared to other sectors. Growth industries are often new or pioneer industries that did not exist in the past. Their growth is a result of demand for new products or services offered by companies in the field.

The increase in size or sales observed within a given consumer group over a specified time frame. When the management of a business is reviewing the success of a product, it needs to deduct the overall market growth rate from the observed product sales growth.

There are four types of industry. These are primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary. Primary industry involves getting raw materials e.g. mining, farming and fishing. Secondary industry involves manufacturing e.g. making cars and steel.
