valency remains same while going down the group. as valency is the no. of electrons present in outermost shell. and more of they are termed in the same group because they have same valency.

while in the case of along a period is different. along a period the valency increases.

in group 1,2and 18 the valency is same in their respective groups. but along a period, the elements belonging to group 1,2&18 differ from each other.

in a group the valency of the element remain same for ex the valency of group one element is +1 while of group two is +2 and group eieghteen is 0 because their ele conf is compelete.
