The law of segregation states that each individual that is a diploid has a pair of alleles (copy) for a particular trait. Each parent passes an allele at random to their offspring resulting in a diploid organism. The allele that contains the dominant trait determines the phenotype of the offspring.

This law states that , through the parents contain 2 alleles during gamete formation, the factor of alleles of a pair segregate from each other , such that a gamete receive only one of the two factors.
Hence the alleles do not show any blending and both the character are recovered as such in the F2 generation , through one of these is the F1 generation .
i.e. Genotypic ratio - 1:2:1 among AA, Aa,&aa genotypes and phenotypic ratio- 3:1 between 'A and a' phenotype.
