Potential gradient is defined as the fall of potential per unit length of potentio meter wire. ... The gradient ofpotential energy is force (measured in newtons).

Answer:

potential gradient can be defined as potential different per unit lenght.

Explanation:

let AB is a wire having lenght L and potential difference across wire AB is VAB. Tha cell of emf E and having internal resistance r.

current through AB = E/R+r

P. D across AB is

VAB = IR

VAB = ER/(R+r)

now P. D per unit lenght is

VAB/L=ER/L(R+r).

but E and VAB/L is constant

therefore VAB /Lis potential gradient which is denoted by k.
