Powers of the Prime Minister:
Head of the govt
coordinates the work of the departments
Supervises the functioning of the departments
distributes and re-distributes work to the ministers
If the PM quits, the whole thing is dissolved.
Powers of the President:
Head of the state
Chief commander of the defence
All major policy decisions are taken in her name
All major appointments are taken in her name
This includes the appointment of the Chief Justice of India, Judges of the High court and the Supreme court, ambassadors, Governors of the state, Election commissioner, etc.
Just like the Queen of Britain, the President's power is ceremoni
