THE U.S. ENTERED 2016 with an estimated population of 322,762,018 according to an end-of-year estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau, meaning that we added more than 2.4 million people to the population over the course of the year.
Per the Census, that's a 0.77 percent increase, which is a slight uptick from the 0.73 percent growth the nation experienced in calendar year 2014 but still lags behind the 0.9 percent increase of 2009 (presumably a Great Recession baby boom). Overall since the last Census Day (April 1, 2010 – seriously they did it on April Fool's Day), the country's population has increased by 14,016,480, or 4.54 percent, according to the Census.
