Electric fuse works on the heating effect of electric current.whenelectricity passes through the wires it creates heat.fuse is made up of a low melting point.due to the heat created by the electric current, if excess current passes through the fuse, the fuse melts down and prevents excess flow ofelectric current...

Fuse is a safety device.  It is a thin wire made of tin and lead alloy having low melting point around 200°C.  It is used to prevent the possible damage caused by overloading and short circuiting.
