I think most everyone realizes that if their birthday is on Mon. then next year their birthday will be on Tues.

So in a normal year if the last day of the year is on a Sat. the last day of the next year is on a Sun which would give you 53 Sun. But since this only occurs for Sat the probability of 53 Sun in a nornal year is 1/7.

For a leap year, if the last day of the prior year was on Fri then the last day of the leap year is on Sun giving 2 possible days (Sat and Sun) for 53 Sun  in the year for a probability of 2/7.

52 weeks = 7 * 52 = 364 days so day 365 occurs 53 times in that year.

For a leap year day 365 and 366 both occur 53 times in that year.
