Hey...
In India, the women's participation in the legislature is very low. For example, the percentage of elected woman members in Lok Sabha has never reached even 10% of its total strength. Their share in state assemblies is less than 5%. One of the solutions to increase the women participation in the political system is to make it legally binding to have a fair proportion of women in the elected bodies. In the panchayats and municipalities it is legally binding to fill one third of the seats by women candidates. This has resulted in 10 lakhs elected women representatives in the local govemment bodies.
Hope this would help you.
