The purpose of a discussion is to help each group member explore and discover personal meanings of a text through interaction with other people. Much of our everyday talk is made up of descriptions in which we seek in one way or another to convey ideas to other people.
Group discussions are the part of a job interviews. In some companies they conduct GD (group discussion) and in others, they may take you straight to HR/Technical interview.
GD, usually comprises of 6–8 candidates, seated in a circle/semi circle format. The company's HR will provide a topic to the group and gives them 5–8 minutes to discuss on the topic. This is conducted to test your Verbal and non-verbal (body language, eye contact, gestures) communication skills, group skills, along with your knowledge on the topic given.
On the other hand, personal and technical interviews are conducted in person with HR. Here, HR will question you on your subject major, skills.
I would train myself to be a good listener. I would acknowledge that everyone has something valuable to say. When speaking in a GD, I would articulate my point of view in a way that is easy for others to comprehend. Also, I would inculcate the good habit of structuring my thoughts and presenting them logically.
