The salt is used in food because it reduces the possibility of goitre as the lack of iodine in the body.

The hydrochloric acid is present in body in the stomach.

(1) it kills the bacteria in the stomach which comes along with the food.

(2) it creates the acidic medium which facilitates the pepsin enzyme to work on protein digestion.
