Question :

what is the quotient if we divide x⁴ + x³ - 2x² by x - 1

Solution :

x - 1 ) x⁴ + x³ - 2x² ( x³ + 2x²

– x⁴ - x³ - 2x²

___________

2x³ - 2x²

– 2x³ - 2x²

___________

  • Remainder → 0

  • Quotient → x³ + 2x²

Verification :

→ (x - 1)(x³ + 2x²) + 0

→ x(x³ + 2x²) - 1(x³ + 2x²) + 0

→ x⁴ + 2x³ - x³ - 2x²

→ x⁴ + x³ - 2x²

Hence Verified that the quotient is x³ + 2x²
