Let the smaller term be x and the greater term be x + 40

The ratio = 2/7

A/q,

=> x / (x + 40) = 2/7

=> 7x = 2x + 80                [by cross multiplication]

=> 7x - 2x = 80

=> 5x = 80

=> x = 80/5

=> x = 16

Therefore, the smaller term = x = 16

and the greater term = x + 40 = 16 + 40 = 56

SOLUTION

a-b= 10......(1) or a= 10+b......(2)

=) b/a = 2/7

=) b/10+b= 2/7

=) 7b= 20+2b

=) 7b-2b= 20

=) 5b= 20

=) b= 20/5

=) b= 4

Now, putting the value of b in eq. (2)

a= 10+ b

=) a= 10+4

=) a= 14

Ratio

b/a= 4/14

=) 4:14

hope it helps ☺️
