Answer:

Rationalisation is a process in which an irrational number is multiplied with a suitable irrational number so as to make it rational.

for example, √12 is an irrational number. By multiplying it with √3, it will become √36 = ±6 which is a rational number.

The process of converting a number into an equivalent expression whose denominator is a rational number by multiplying its numerator and denominator by a suitable number is called Rationalisation.

Example:-

 \frac{3}{ \sqrt{5} }

Solution:-

On multiplying the numerator and denominator of the given number by √5,we get

 \frac{3}{ \sqrt{5} } \times  \frac{ \sqrt{5} }{ \sqrt{5} }

 \frac{3 \sqrt{5} }{5}

Rationalising Factor

The product of two irrational number is rational then each one is called the rationalising factor of the other.

For Rationalising the denominator of a number,we get it's numerator and denominator by its rationalising factor
