When an acid and a base react ,it is called a neutralization reaction because in this reaction removal of water molecule causes both the acid and base to be neutralized i.e there is no dominated hydrogen or hydroxyl ion. As, both of these compounds are neutralized in this reaction ( water molecule is always neutral ) ,that is why this reaction is called neutralization reaction.

When acid reacts with base to produce salt and water this reaction is commonly known as neutralisation reaction as the effect of acid and base get neutralized hence salt and water is produced

HCL +NaOH -------> NaCl + H2O
